The truth is, fourteen years later I actually have better skin, without ANY medical or surgical procedures. Don't underestimate the power of skin nutrition! Here's some valuable information on sun spots and how to get rid of them naturally.
So, What's the Balance?
Your self image also has an impact on aging. "The view you adopt of yourself profoundly affects the way you live your life" - Carol Dweck.
If you see yourself as tired and old, you will start to hunch over and not work out as often. If you see yourself as young and full of life, then you will naturally make choices that support your health and beauty.
BUT FIRST, BE YOURSELF! Is there a woman who looks like a barbie doll and also looks interesting? Being happy with who you are gives you confidence, and makes you look and feel more beautiful.
Confidence is the most beautiful feature on a woman so it is important to embrace yourself the way you are, but also take care of yourself. When it comes to anti-aging, what we need to understand is why we get wrinkles, and how to nurture our skin and be kind to ourselves so we can lessen the deeper wrinkles and skin damage that are brought on by UV exposure, stress & unhealthy habits.
The main causes of wrinkles and aging skin:
#1 Decreased oil production in skin:
As we age, the skin begins to be more dense and less elastic. As the skin begins to lower its natural oil production, your skin can get dryer and less plump. Dryer, older skin leads to what are called “gray cells” which are skin cells that get stuck together and are not as flexible or hydrated as they were during youth. This is why an oil based moisturizer is truly the most important skin care product you will ever use.
#2 Ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause the skin to wrinkle.
UV exposure speeds up the aging process of the body. Exposure to UV rays breaks down the connective tissue of the skin, collagen, and elastin fibers which are found in the deeper layers of the skin. Without these fibers and collagen, the skin begins to lose flexibility and strength. As a result, the skin begins to wrinkle and sag prematurely.
Stress can take a toll on your health and your skin. One of the main things I do to help with stress is to work out. Working out helps destress the mind, and allows the body to detoxify bringing elasticity and circulation to your skin. When I work out at least 4 days a week and work up a good sweat, I feel happier and my skin looks great! When I have stress, don't eat healthy foods, get too busy and don't work out on a regular basis, my skin suffers.
#4 Environmental toxins
It is difficult to avoid many of the environmental toxins that are affecting our skin and health. Pesticides, air pollution, toxic molds, toxic building materials in your home- these pollutants age us from the inside out. However, if you can eat a healthy organic whole foods diet as well as choose nontoxic products you for home and skin, you'll help your body to process and eliminate the toxins that weigh your immune system down.
